We’re pleased to announce that CDA Director Ben Rubin’s piece “Listening Post” is gracing the cover of the upcoming release Information (MIT Press) edited by Sara Cook.

Due to be released in August, Information, is an anthology of artists and writers all reflecting on the intertwining history of data and art. Ranging from examinations of Kynaston McShine’s innovative show, “Information” in 1970 to the art form’s recent intersections with new media, the collection assembles thinkers who are challenging the boundaries between information science and art.

“Listening Post,” an installation Ben created in collaboration with Mark Hansen in 2002, is a data-sonification installation that:

[D]isplays snippets of language to compose a series of “views” that highlight various aspects of the data and which may be thought of as dramatic scenes or, more dryly, core samples of the Web. To make these interactions more legible for audiences, the piece reads some of these excerpts aloud — creating a kind of call-and-response effect among the installation’s eight speakers [. . .]
