The aging and declining population will have far-reaching impacts. Declining fertility rates will possibly increase immigration. The structure of family and society will inevitably change.

— Toshihiko Fukui, Japanese economist and central banker

It’s the talk of town and it’s been making headlines everywhere! Gen Zs are shying away from marriage and by extension the prospect of having children for various reasons and governments are panicking over an imminent population crisis.

Some of the reasons provided by Gen Zs to defend their choice of postponing marriage or even choosing not to do it ever are quite understandable though. The first and foremost reason is that youths are fed up with the old dogma of marriage i.e. to continue one’s lineage. They are not keen on sacrificing their freedom simply to be babies factories.

There are other logical reasons too like the idea to first secure financial freedom before settling down with a family and the concern over climate change and global crisis that will undoubtedly make the future an unappealing lifetime to be in, hence youths don’t want to subjugate their children to such life.
