The desire to not exist, to simply disappear is an idea that I come across very frequently these days. I see this thought emerging on social media, on video platforms, and in various conversations among youngsters.

Often times I also find myself and my friends wishing for erasure. It is a sensitive topic that is brushed off with laughter and casual remarks saying ‘yea, wish I didn’t exist’, ‘I wish the world would end soon’, ‘why are we even alive’ and so on.

It is a sentiment that not many can understand. Some simply see it as depression or as momentary sadness. But the profound meaning behind this deep and daring desire of non-existence lies beyond the fleeting emotions.

It is not a self-destructive fantasy.

Nobody wants to die, but nobody wants to live either. To not exist anymore is a yearning to magically disappear, without pain, violence or sadness. To fall asleep and never wakeup again.

This desire may stem from lack of something, as every desire stems from a sense of absence. We live in times where we are associated only for our own selfish desires. Our everyday lives lacking any compassion or generosity.

The quality of network and relationships has declined, where love has lost its charm and kindness has become extraterrestrial. Despite being social creatures with an innate desire for connection, we are disconnected from the living.

The incessant pursuit of success numbs our emotions and leaves us with a quantifiable worth, we find ourselves trapped in the monotony of life. Our relentless chase for approval and acceptance drains us, replacing genuine connections with an overwhelming emptiness.

This void, born from societal pressures and individual aspirations, pushes us towards the desire for nothingness.

However, amidst the chaos and the profound solitude, there are moments that defy the void’s engulfing darkness. Picture a serene morning, like the one unfolding outside my window. The golden sunlight dances on the clouds and the world, though noisy and bustling, exudes a certain stillness — a shared effort to survive.

Observing the intricacies of life, from fluttering butterflies to chirping birds, I find a peculiar warmth seeping through the cracks of my desolate existence.

In those moments, when time seems suspended, the void that once threatened to consume me feels lighter.

There’s an undeniable beauty in the haunting tales of the human experience. Amidst the selfishness that often characterizes our interactions, countless individuals carry unique stories within them. It’s a realization that tempers with my disdain for mankind, transforming it into an acknowledgment of the hauntingly beautiful world we live in.

As I sit quietly, absorbing the sights and sounds around me, I discover that the void doesn’t disappear. It’s still there, lingering, but its weight is diminished. The journey to embracing the void within involves acknowledging its existence while finding solace in the passing moments that pierce through the emptiness.

In a society where connections have become fleeting and self-centered, the challenge is not only to survive but to thrive within the void.

It demands a deliberate effort to cultivate moments of connection, kindness, and appreciation. Perhaps, in those moments, the desire for non-existence can be overshadowed by the richness of living.

In the paradoxical dance between the void and moments of beauty, we navigate the complexities of our existence. The desire to not exist transforms into a search for meaning within the void — a quest for a purpose that surpasses the fleeting nature of our individual pursuits.

As I continue to sit in the stillness of the morning, I am reminded that the void is not the end but a space to explore, to be filled with our experiences. In this exploration, we may find that existence, even within the void, holds the potential for unexpected beauty and profound connection.

And someday the void within me, and I, floating in the void, will form a harmonious coexistence.

Thank-you for reading!
I wish you all the love and luck in life.🤍
