We Used to Love the Rain

Rain on Water — Michael Mazur (2009)

it was funny how
when we were a child
we used to love playing in the rain

soaking our skin with its drizzle
as if it was not a big deal

we were running
when the sky was crying
not to find shelter
but to taste the pouring rains
in our mouths like curious little children
who were not afraid to try anything
this world has to offer

we were laughing
splashing the puddles with our little feet
appreciating little moments
as if it was a precious gift
how innocent we were back then
not having any care in the world
about what the future holds
nor what other people might think
we are just busy living our lives in the moment

yet somehow now
when the rain comes
we hide under the shade
hating ourselves for
not being prepared for the worst
getting soaked by the touch of delicate tears
as if it was the worst thing
that could happen to us

but we used to love the rain
used to love its smell
used to love the humid air
that comes with it
used to love the sentiment
it brings to our mind
used to love the sound
when it is freckling down
and touched the solid ground

now we avoid them at all cost
like a plague
or a hater who hate the sentimental vibe
cursing them when the rain
comes without warning
blaming them for ruining our day

oh, what exactly the rain
has done to us that it
leaves us all bitter
now we grew older?
