Shonda Rhimes is an American screenwriter, producer, and author best known for creating and producing some of the most popular and groundbreaking television series of the past two decades, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” and “How to Get Away with Murder,” among others. She is also the founder and creative force behind the production company Shondaland.

Rhimes was born in 1970 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Park Forest, a suburb of Chicago. She attended Dartmouth College and later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.

After graduation, Rhimes worked a number of odd jobs in the entertainment industry before landing her big break as a writer on the ABC drama “Crossing Jordan.” She later went on to write for several other popular shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” which she created in 2005.
