The Kalakala Ferry, bless its poor little heart, rammed itself into a barge off of Glover Point, near Bremerton, 76 years ago today.

HistoryLink has all the details, and by which I mean “there aren’t many”:

On August 16, 1943, the Kalakala rams a barge off Glover Point near Bremerton. Two railroad cars on board are knocked into the water, yet the Kalakala is barely damaged.

This retrospective on the ferry from the News Tribune also notes “1943: The KALAKALA rams a barge off Glover Point, knocking two railroad cars into Puget Sound. The KALAKALA is barely damaged — and found not to be at fault.”

Cool.
