The Seattle SuperSonics were officially born 53 years ago today. It’s sad that an unholy trinity of Howard Schultz, David Stern, and Clay Bennett killed them.

From HistoryLink and Dan Johnson:

On December 20, 1966, the NBA (National Basketball Association) awards Seattle a franchise, christened the SuperSonics. The SuperSonics will begin play for the 1967–1968 NBA season at the Seattle Center Coliseum.

It was great while it lasted.
