Let’s remember when Tom Douglas defeated Iron Chef Morimoto on “Iron Chef America,” on this day in 2005 (November 6)

It was “Battle Salmon,” and it pitted Seattle’s most well-known restaurateur against a legendary Iron Chef (who just opened a new restaurant in the International District a few months ago). Tom Douglas vs. Masaharu Morimoto proved to be one of the hardest fought matches on “Iron Chef America,” the greatest show the Food Network has ever made. But if Douglas stood a chance against Morimoto, it was going to be with a seafood.

The Seattle Times is a little understated when they reported:

Seattle chef and restaurateur Tom Douglas defeated Masaharu Morimoto in the “Iron Chef America” televised Sunday on Food Network.

Morimoto came into the competition with 68 victories on “Iron Chef.” It was the first appearance for Douglas.

The chefs were required to prepare a five-course meal in 60 minutes using salmon.
