Second Graded Project- Narrative Photo Essay

Joe Hutchinson, art director for Rolling Stone Magazine, skyped with journalism students and faculty on Tuesday afternoon.
The Skype interview took place in the Overby Center Auditorium at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
The Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics is attached to Ole Miss’s Meek School of Journalism and New Media.
Leading up to the entrance of the auditorium was a pathway of former Rolling Stone covers.
Many iconic covers were displayed such as those of musicians, Miranda Lambert and Jay-Z.
Students arrived early to the auditorium, many of whom are journalism or Integrated Marketing Communications majors.
Darren Sanefski of the Ole Miss chapter of the Society for News Design handled the technical aspects prior to the interview with Hutchinson.
Hutchinson described his job as Art Director for Rolling Stone Magazine as well as answered several questions from students about journalism and graphic design.
Many students took notes during the interview on laptops and notebooks.
Hutchinson described the process that the magazine went through in creating musician, Taylor Swift’s cover.
Freshman Catelyn Madison captured the event with her smart phone.
Hutchinson described the different drafts of typeface and formatting that the magazine created prior to selecting the final cover of Swift.
Senefski of Ole Miss SND captured the event on his phone as well.
The walls of the Overby Center are decorated with many famous quotes from renowned people in the field of journalism.
The Skype interview with Joe Hutchinson is one of the many events happening at the Overby Center this spring.
