Future of Journalism In a Newsroom
By Somayya Safa
In today’s society, there seems to be more of struggle as far as diversity goes, despite the fact that we live in a diverse nation, to begin with, there’s still a preference where one party lacks to see potential in other ethnic race and gender roles.
But when it comes to media, we definitely can sense and see the lack diversity in newsroom and when it comes to journalism, the issues that seem to come up to me is what are the challenges and the problems that we are facing in which it should be addressed or further looked into the reality of what journalism is missing.
It seems to me that we still fail to look beyond other potentials of what other people from different ethnicity and color can bring into a newsroom table, especially that it can serve the industry to have fresh new perspectives and ideas, where a team of diverse candidates can be helpful in informing their colleagues to solutions and gain knowledge of new perspectives on issues where none of them have any information or ideas towards each other’s background or local community.
Despite the struggles of diversity in a newsroom, the future of newsrooms is on the verge of changing and it looks very promising into what it would bring into a newsroom.
The way I picture a newsroom in the near future is it will definitely be more technical and it will have people of different ethnic background and culture who have different educational degrees.
Now, why is that?
Due to the advancement of technology the future appears to make traditional journalism into a more technical approach rather than what journalism has always been for decades.
This not only pushes out traditional but it also makes space for change, but such change comes unintentionally because of how the profession of journalism is reinventing itself.
Each person that will contribute towards the advancement of technology and the future of journalism will provide their own input to work as a team, where the involvement of reporters, editors, journalist, tech people will come together to carry on to build a much bigger network.
Providing their multi skills and knowledge that help each different member to collaborate and come together to work side by side to share their points will help journalism advance in their ideas and creativity of storytelling.
To ensure that a newsroom is taking the right approach to living up to its standards of journalism and bring positive change to ensure such success is to find balance within the right people who are dedicated enough to provide and listen to the needs of what people want.
To be able to interact with audiences about certain issues that can be shared and taken into consideration because their feedback will help build a resourceful newsroom.
