Should AI’s and bots take Over?
By Chris Sewell
Personally, I think that a website will never have a mind of its own, this is so because a website, app or program is meant to do only what it is created for.
In medium, my latter statement is expanded on, when the text talked about how children learn. It’s says; instead of waiting a number of years to learn someone’s facial expression whenever they are communicating their emotions. “Machine algorithms” goes through thousands of images in order to get an accurate categorization (Machine learning-AP report, 2019).
The word machine algorithm is not much different from a certain programming. AI’s with this kind of programming can do the same thing by specifically looking for certain content structure, key phrases, and web templates with specification and requirements.
I think that if a web programming such as Facebook, had something similar to what I just mention, there probably wouldn’t be that much or any fake content on its site at all.
The result of having such a strict website requirement would in a sense diminish Facebook’s popularity because its users wouldn’t be able to post whatever they want as official reports.
The future can be shaped with new AI’s and bots creation, not only for social media but for other content disclosure, and improvement of source credibility. Fake content that don’t meet certain specifications will just be eliminated automatically regardless purpose.
Machine Learning states; “The more data a team has to teach its system, and the more accurate that data, the less likely the machine is to commit any errors” (np, 2019).
Another argument that might spring up, as a result of this future programming is that the user’s freedom of expression is somehow on a leash. Also, regulating the internet’s content, might be viewed as going against democratic ideal.
In my opinion, these new AI and Bots wouldn’t be restricting any of that because in reality we are free to say and do whatever we want, it’s just not allowed when it comes to official reporting and journalistic disclosure.
According to Sebastian and Melissa’s blog, the new intervention that I discussed is not yet implemented, however there are ideas of it being used currently, and there are talks about bringing machine learning into the newsroom and journalism. Somehow, the journalist job will be eliminated to some extent. But the idea is possible and it can be incorporated (exploring machine learning in the newsrooms, 2018).
