Journalism has changed drastically through the years as it went from being mostly reported on newspapers and TV to being covered by thousands of news sources thanks in part to technology. However Journalism has been on a decline as it has become labeled as “fake news” causing many people to not fully trust Journalism as they once did.

Although Journalism is in a rough spot there are many ways that we can improve it. For example journalists have to focus on bringing their consumers the most enjoyable and appropriate content. To do this they have to get to know their audience, what they believe in, and what they really want to see from the media.

As the Stanford d.School Design Thinking Process graph shows to better understand your audience you must first empathize with them. This can be done through interviews where journalists are non judgmental and allow people to open up. Once people open up they will be able to trust the journalists more and can even input ideas or suggestions on what the journalists should cover. Another way that journalism can be improved is to use social media in our favor. Social media is very popular in our society and in fact is a great platform to help promote journalism and engage the audiences. There are about million if not billions on people daily on social media so by incorporating journalism into social media it exposes it to many different audiences throughout the world which helps journalism grow. In addition by engaging and connecting with the audiences through social media, great opportunities arise such as donors, advertisers, and content contributors.
