Virginia Humanities connects people and ideas to explore the human experience and inspire cultural engagement. Established in 1974, Virginia Humanities offers a diverse array of programs — from public events to radio programs to books to digital resources — to help Virginians explore the past and understand the present.

With a broad spectrum of connected programs and events, the organization needed a unified visual identity and a comprehensive brand system. Virginia Humanities came to Journey Group in search of a new brand identity.

A flexible new logo

Drawing inspiration from the shape of the commonwealth, Journey Group proposed a modern, graphical take on Virginia, creating a new logo that could extend across the brand broadly and contain pertinent images and designs tailored to each of the programs throughout Virginia Humanities.

Envisioning the future

Part of the challenge of the project was creating a new identity that could represent the parent organization while also creating a singular aesthetic for each of the programs contained within Virginia Humanities.

Journey Group worked with stakeholders throughout Virginia Humanities to create a brand system that would unify the organization and yet dignify the distinctive elements of each program.

Colors and customizable secondary images can be altered for each of the programs, and the new logo and visual identity extend across a wide array of uses, from stationery to signs to posters to websites.
