(Chinese drama) 🌟 🌟 🌟 3/5

This is a decent drama featuring ice hockey, and which also addresses gender equality.

The story is about a girl who disguises herself as a boy in order to study at the university of her choice. There is also another guy who chooses to play ice hockey rather go to business school. Somehow the two of them end up on the same ice hockey team, hit it off together, and the story is about how they realize their dreams.

Darren Chen has performed well. It is quite different from his Meteor Garden role, and he has pulled it off competently. Chen Yao plays the role of a girl in a boy’s disguise. Though I don’t find her pretty, she is quite hard-working. The rest of the cast have also worked hard at their roles.

The drama has a lot of scenes featuring actual ice hockey matches, and it shows the skill, speed, aggression and dangers involved in the sport. It also gave us a view of how tough it is for girls to succeed in a sport dominated by boys, and about the sacrifices and heartache one has to go through to play the sport. There was decent camaraderie between Darren Chen and Chen Yao, but no actual chemistry. What I liked about the story was the ever-present hope, and support for friends and teammates. There are also a lot of immature and cliche scenes that could have been avoided. The fact that no one recognized Chen Yao to be a girl, in spite of her obvious facial features, size, voice and mannerisms was pure nonsense, and quite unbelievable. The overall vibe of the drama was very light-hearted, and clearly, the actors were under-utilized. As is evident, there wasn’t much depth in both the direction and acting. Nevertheless, the script has great potential, and it was a pleasant drama to watch.

If you’re a fan of any of the actors, you might want to check this drama out.

My rating πŸ˜• 😡 😊 πŸ’• πŸ†

Love writing. I like to understand the psyche of people I meet, even more than their life story.
