Journey Off Seattle

I’m going to start this blog with a little disclaimer. Seattle is hands down one of the nicest cities I’ve visited so this blog might be bias. Everyone always strays away from Seattle due to the cloudy weather. Don’t let that scare you away! You’ll have a blast here. I unfortunately didn’t stay long in Seattle but I’ll still be going over a lot in this blog today.

Let’s start off with getting there..

You’re best option would be flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport which is 17 minutes away from downtown Seattle. I actually landed in Portland because I was going to end up there after Seattle. The Portland airport is only a 3 hour road trip and it’s a pretty easy drive. Hop on the I-5 and take it all the way to Seattle.

Some tips traveling through the I-5

  • It’s very dark at night. Do other cities not believe in street lights like we do here in Arizona? I had to use my high beams at some points when other cars weren’t around me.
  • Knowing Oregon/Washington weather, take a reliable car that has some good windshield wipers. It rained both to and from Seattle. Make sure you’re comfortable driving in rain, fog, and darkness.
  • Stay off the I-5 during its rush hour. I guess a lot of people commute through the Washington-Oregon since Portland is so close to the border. Stay off on Friday’s at 4pm and on Sunday all throughout the afternoon.

Stay

We decided to stay outside of downtown Seattle since everything is so expensive. We found a cute airbnb that was 12 minutes away. If you know you’ll only be in the city, don’t rent a car and just stay in the city. Parking in the city can be crazy and it will add up.

Day One

The day started kind of late on our first day so we headed straight to lunch.

Casco Antiguo, is a nice little restaurant. If you’re craving some mexican, this is the place to be. If you’re not, that whole area around Casco Antiguo has some good bars + resturants. Occidental Square is right in front of the restaurant. If you want to grab a coffee and just hang out with friends! It was the cutest spot.

After lunch, we decided to take a ferry to Bainbridge Island. The ferry ride was about 30 minutes and $8. Totally worth it! It started raining a little when we got there so it was a ghost town but we didn’t mind. We honestly just walked around town, shopping in the small little boutiques and gift shops. As boring as that sounds- I had a blast. It was so relaxing with smell of rain and greenery surrounding you. I highly recommend going to Bainbridge if you’re ever in Washington.

After getting back from Bainbridge, we headed over to the Seattle’s Great Wheel. The cost of the Ferris Wheel was $14 with a 10–15 minute wait. It was super dark when we went so I recommend going during the day. That night was ended at the Alibi Room, such a beautiful restaurant in an alley right outside Pike’s Market Place. I had the toughest time finding the place. We followed our map and were looking around for about 5–7 minutes until we saw security and asked for directions. It’s directly in front of the Gum Wall- which by the way, the gum was taken down when we were there so be aware if you’re going to see it. Alibi Room is very small and dark with loud music at night. Their food is TO DIE FOR though. Pizzas were really good and their Mac n cheese will leave you wanting more. We called it a night after dinner. Be careful walking around Pike’s Market and surrounding areas. We had a couple questionable people come up to us.

Day Two

We were going to head out to Portland during the evening so we wanted to get as much site seeing as possible before leaving. We wanted to walk around Pike’s during the day. It was really busy when we got there but the atmosphere is nice. Honestly, I thought it’d be a big bigger. You can walk around the whole thing within 15 minutes. It was nice just walking around and testing different food, fruit, and yummy drinks. We ate lunch at a small little deli. No problem finding food, theres plenty around. We took the iconic pictures in front by the sign. That corner is seriously so dangerous. There’s about 20–25 people just standing around trying to get the best insta pic (me lol).

We went over to the Space Needle. In every big city, there is something like the Space Needle. You pay to go up on an elevator and come back down. Afterwards, you wonder why you spent money on something that takes 10 minutes.. I’d rather hike and get a view of the city for free. We did the combo ticket that included the Chihuly Garden and Glass. It was interesting seeing all the glass and art. My advice, skip the Space Needle and go over to Chihuly Garden and Glass instead.

Tickets-

Space needle- $29 for adults

Chihuly Garden and Glass- $26 for adults

Combo- $42 for adults

We ended off Seattle with dinner at Salty’s. It was ahhhh-mazing!! We ordered so much food- omg! From the lobster, to the oysters, and everything in between. The restaurant is a bit pricey but you are paying for the view, food, and amazing service. I highly highly recommend Salty’s if you’re ever in Seattle. Salty’s is located on Alki Beach directly across from downtown. Along with the ocean view, you’ll be getting the city view so go on over- you won’t regret it!

Some things to do if you do have more time-

  • Puget Sound
  • Museum of Flight
  • Museum of Pop Culture
  • Olympic Sculpture Park
  • Gas Works Park
  • Pacific Science Center
  • Hiking in Washington is also a must. Next time I visit, that’ll be more my focus rather than the touristy stuff. They’re so many hikes. A quick google search will give you something of your liking.

Thanks for reading. Your support means the world to us. Claps, Comments and more! We love it.
