The weekend has flown by, and it is Monday once again. Many people these days suffer from the disease known as “Monday Blues.” Monday Blues refers to the lethargy and fatigue that is experienced on Monday after two days of rest. Sometimes, it is accompanied by signs of depression. Yonhap News has proposed an absurd measure saying that people should start work on Sundays, but I’m not sure if many people can agree with this idea.

According to research done by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Transportation Research Institute, the average time spent by Koreans on commuting to and from work added up to one hour thirty six minutes in 2016. We thought, “Maybe other countries do the same,” but when comparing the commute hours of Korea and other countries, we discovered that Korea was unique in its long hours spent going to work and returning home. If we look at last year’s OECD report, South Koreans spend the most time commuting to and from work among all the OECD member countries.

Furthermore, job-finding website Incruit received survey results that said that 31% of the respondents claimed to receive stress during their daily commute. Some studies indicate that the commuting distance is proportional to one’s happiness, so it does seem like how someone spends their time on their way to work can shift their happiness levels.

Let’s hear the story of Jihwan Kim, age 33, who lives in Mok-dong, Seoul, Korea, and wakes up at 6 o’clock every morning to travel to his workplace in Cheonho-dong. Mr. Kim said, “Standing up for one hour and a half to work is completely unproductive. It is a waste of time, and frankly, I am stressed out because of the commute. I wish there was something I could gain during this time.”

Today, I want to introduce a way JPAY can help people like Mr. Kim conquer their daily commute struggles. There are different transportation methods utilized to travel to and from work. Some people take their car, some ride the bus, while others stand on the subway. Although the subway is always packed during morning hours, I choose to take it because it is on time for the most part. It offers a clean environment, so I can’t complain about that, but the problem is I am oftentimes bored. Reading the news hurts my head, and it feels like I am getting even more stressed out.

From about a month ago, I started playing J-Farm. Games like J-Farm can be played for long periods of time because you are growing your own farm. You are accumulating virtual assets. Have you played with Tamagotchis during your childhood? Tamgotchis allow you to raise virtual pets and see them grow. J-Farm is similar in that you can see your farm grow, and this allows for a prolonged and immersive experience. Because there is no end to the game, you can keep playing and continue to build your garden empire on your mobile phone. Once you get started, you’ll find yourself saying, “What? I’m already at work? That was quick.” You want to know what the best part is? If you play J-Farm for 90 minutes, you can buy a cup of coffee through the reward system.

These days, coffee prices are steadily on the rise. People are less likely to say, “Coffee’s on me today!” Franchise coffee shops are beginning to charge more, stating that the reason for this price change is due to rent, labor costs, and other expenses. This cost is transferred directly to consumers, or people like us.

Due to this changing economy, it is a great idea to earn your coffee money while you commute. It gets rid of torturous boredom and gives you free coffee! I keep mentioning coffee, but it doesn’t have to be a caffeinated drink that you buy. You can add points to your JPAY account just by having fun on J-Farm. It’s stress-free and rewarding, all at the same time. Of course, there are things like YouTube, music, and messaging friends, but we want to tell you that JPAY is an available option. Remember, nothing else pays you to play games!

Today, we learned about how commuting messes with your mental health, but we also figured out a way to throw that stress back out the window with J-Farm. As people say, time is money — no time should be waste. If time is money, then it could be wise to spend time commuting wisely. 90 minutes a day adds up to 450 minutes a week. In one month, you’ve spent 1,800 minutes travelling to and from work! 30 hours is not nothing, so why don’t we go ahead and make something out of it with JPAY!
