At the Robina Community Centre well over 100 JPs attended a useful workshop conducted by Greg Thompson and Brendon Balogh of the JP Branch. The aim was to present current best practice so as to achieve consistency across all volunteering for the signing sites within the JPs in the Community Program.

Very soon after the workshop we received by email a set of valuable resources consisting of links and a copy of the slides. These workshop resources are available on my workshop site.

Taken from the slides the topics were:

  • Your duties
  • What can I witness?
  • Statutory declarations
  • Affidavits & annexures
  • Production notices
  • Witnessing Enduring documents
  • Witnessing Titles Registry forms
  • Certifying documents
  • Keeping records

As might be expected the witnessing of enduring documents resulted in sometime heated discussion. For those energised by this topic an impromptu enduring documents discussion followed at the end of the main workshop. Slides from a recent enduring documents workshop at Ipswich are included in the workshop resources.

The main workshop slides are worth reading as is always the case there are new witnessing steps to be learned and new information gems.
