As music consumption has shifted from downloads to streams, artists are forced to set new expectations for their album release day.

Dwindling are the days of the iTunes Pre-Order as we usher in the age of the Spotify Pre-Save. But amid this change there is hope.

A “Pre-Save” Campaign allows fans to automatically save your upcoming album or single to their library once it goes live on Spotify. These campaigns boost your first-day streams, but even more importantly maximize engagement through saves and potential playlist adds.

Pre-Save Platform example from Metablocks

Your fans will be stoked to get the first listen, and you will simultaneously influence Spotify’s algorithms for consideration on Release Radar, Discover Weekly, and Fresh Finds playlists. In addition, since fans sign up via their Spotify accounts, they give you access to their email address for future re-marketing.

There are a number of third-party partners that use Spotify’s API to make your Pre-Save goals possible. Simply contact your digital distributor for the Spotify URI code to any track or album, and head to one of these platforms.

SmartURL

SmartURL offers one of the only free pre-save campaigns on the market. Their product Pivot is a landing page builder for all the digital retailers where your album is (or will be) available.

Price: starting at FREE

Feature.fm

Feature.fm recently launched a free Smart Link tool which has Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer pre-saves built right in. Additionally, any fans who click Pre-Save will automatically follow your Spotify profile and are encouraged to add your music to their playlists, so you can increase your streams and followers.

Price: Feature.fm’s Pre-Save Smart Link is now FREE. First publication of this article pointed to their previous prices of $35 flat fee (one page) and $75/month (unlimited campaigns).

Presave.io

With clients ranging from DIM MAK, Wall Recordings, Armada Records, and Axwell, Presave is “a revolutionary automated tool that allows anyone to create their very own presave campaign.”

Price: €9/month (one page simultaneously), price upon request for multiple campaigns

DistroKid

If you’re distributed through DistroKid, you have access to their tool “HyperFollow,” which is a Spotify pre-save, artist follow, and email capture all bundled into one button!

Price: $19.99/yr (one artist, unlimited songs), $35.99/yr (2 artists, unlimited songs), $79.99/yr (5+ artists, unlimited songs)

Spektrol

A new player in the game, Spektrol has a slew of analytics and data scraping tools. Spektrol Presaver offers deep insights into your visitors, such as email, location, age, and gender of your fans to better target your audience.

Price: $10/month (one page), $99/month (unlimited campaigns)

Show.co

Show.co offers a number of tools to maximize your Spotify engagement. Though it’s owned by CD Baby, you don’t need to be distributed by CD Baby to use Show.co. Artists and labels can set up a Social Unlock campaign for any of the following:

  1. Spotify: Follow
  2. Spotify: Add to My Music
  3. Spotify: Add to Playlist

Price: starting at $39/month

ToneDen

ToneDen is another great platform for building your audience on Spotify. You can incentivize your followers to pre-save your album by offering a free download, coupon, or private link in exchange. Follow ToneDen’s guide here.

Price: starting at $50/month

Metablocks

Probably the most elegant of the options, The Pre-Save Platform from Metablocks is also the most expensive. The pricing is justified for a higher profile artist, considering Metablocks designs custom splash pages for your pre-save to live, based off your album artwork and artist branding.

Price: $200 (single), $300 (album/EP with existing single releases), $400 album/EP (with existing and future single releases scheduled)
