Follow Your Heart, It Knows the Way Home

Our head makes decisions that are good on paper- but shit in real life.

--

We’ve been conditioned to faithfully follow logic and listen to our head; driven by biology and ego, constantly wanting gratification, yet never being satisfied. We’re taught to ignore our heart and deeper needs.

The head lies, it gets us lost in its stories and well-worn patterns, rationalizing to the extent we’ll no longer know what we want.

We stay stuck in places we don’t want to be, because it’s logical. We stay in expired relationships, we people please, we do meaningless work, we invite people we don’t even really like into our life because at least they’re a warm body and it’s (supposedly) better than being alone. It’s logical and normal to seek validation, approval, and a temporary fix. But we seek these things because we don’t listen to our hearts.

We don’t listen to what our heart needs. We put our hearts in the hands of other people and empty things, giving up our responsibility to create a place within where we are truly seen, heard, understood, and loved. We give our power away to the other and instead of seeking home in ourselves we seek home in them and other things to distract us from the fact that we’re not happy with our lives and ourselves.

When we learn to nurture and soothe ourselves, we learn what we need and how to give it to ourselves. We know who we are beneath our programming and we know what’s right for us. We’re authentic and true.

Instead of looking outside of ourselves for caretakers, we look for companions. Instead of looking for Band Aids, we find a cure.

When we build a home within, we are never lost.

Follow your heart. It knows the way home.
