I Wrote A Word Down

I wrote a word down, a single word to start.

A tall grand idea, but still only an inkling of a spark.

An aloof outstanding thought — shaped like a square, rounded peg;

Universally brilliant icebreaker, but for a partner it begged.

Keyboard clicking with proud grandiose;

Frantically searching for a phrase to boast.

I delicately skim over, grazing the surface;

Hoping my fingers sink down and reveal this episode’s purpose.

The essence of my being escapes physical expression;

I imagine the letters seeping; out in fabulous succession.

Falling to the page seeking order, looking, longing…

To find their place in the paragraph and hope of belonging.

Jockeying for a position, in the sentence of chance;

For their voice to be seen and heard in a momentary glance,

They dodge and parry, taking form as my perception sees light;

Like the flapping wings of a bird lifting off to take flight.

Like the golden rays burning the clouds to make way;

For a spectacular momentary vocabulary display.

A marvelous concoction of phrases, words of elation;

Masterpieces of diction need no punctuation.

The piece takes form, a perfect wave of unbridled omission;

On which I ride, with beautiful inspiring submission.

I have sculpted my David and with my words conquered Goliath;

Exquisitely exposed my soul, and with each keystroke proclaimed triumph.

On this a perfectly executed elaborate work of art

But alas only a fantasy as I still search for the second word to move my wondering heart.
