Life in the Catalyst Intensive: Collisions
When you connect with others, you connect with yourself too.
It’s Sunday morning April 2, 2017. I log onto my computer at 8:55 am to start my first week of the Catalyst Intensive Course. I think I’m early, only to realize I am almost the last person in the class. Classic of me to show up late. I stare at my screen at this “Brady Bunch” box set up of people. People I have seen multiple comments from. I have been watching their journey in the online forum we belong to, “This is You Tribe.”
My first reaction is “Oh Hell! What have I gotten myself into?” Then I hear a familiar voice. “Hi Paul! Welcome to class.” It was John Kim. “Oh great! I’m late to class and the head master is here to greet me,” I think to myself.
That’s when everything began to collide. Of course, we were nervous as hell. We do not know what to expect. The meet and greet began with John leading the charge. Collisions were happening all over the place. What is a collision? A collision is the meeting of new people with personal stories on different journeys. I was having multiple “orgasmic” collisions with new people! Everyone spoke and introduced themselves, asking random questions from members of the class. “Here I am!” Take a random, spontaneous shot. Collision after collision, we began to meet each other, hearing stories and getting comfortable with the environment.
Then it hit me. We weren’t just people colliding with each other. We were also colliding with ourselves.
I was learning more and more about myself in this first meeting than I thought was possible. Collisions with my past, present and future, collisions with my mind telling me over and over again that I didn’t belong here were brought to a sudden end. Part of the collision with myself included the fact that I now realize was like participating in anything that you were good at in school. You may have thought you were pretty good at what you did, until you’re in a room full of people who were all pretty good at what they did. So I just sat back, relaxed and let the collisions happen, one after another, taking in every single word, moment and feeling each collision as it occurred.
Collisions are where your self-growth expands, your knowledge increases, and your self-worth is brought to light. I thank my lucky stars for the opportunity to experience the unbelievable collisions that began at 8:55 am on a Sunday morning on my laptop. Collisions I know will impact me the rest of my living days.
