You’re back? Cool! Thanks so much for your time and effort, all games were incredible this year. I have absolutely no idea how you managed to impress me, the experts, other participants, and random fans another year in a row.
And don’t worry if your game ended lower in the ranking than you expected: the quality of the games this year was insane (top150 from 2019 === top15 from 2012), and differences between most of the games very small. You managed to squeeze a fully functional game within a very limited space - that alone makes you an awesome developer! Also, if you didn’t make it into top100 you’ll be able to buy the t-shirt if you want to.
I hope the validation bot from Platane helped you out, becasue if you used it this year, it also helped us accept your game faster and make the whole process easier. Fingers crossed for having this integrated with the submit form even better in the future.
We also had new voting system from Tricsi, which was an improvement in voting over the previous years, but I already know we can do better for the years to come. We’ll keep you posted as the preparations for 2020 are starting immediately. In the meantime, be sure to check the voting app as it now serves the detailed results and comments from the participants.
Feedback from the experts (at least one per game) is already published on the entries’ pages. If you’re missing that, be patient as one or two experts will catch up with their final thoughts in the next couple of days. Got more than one? You either participated in the WebXR category where we had dedicated judges, or in the Web Monetization one (same), or you got lucky as some experts were playing more than they were asked for (thank you Christer!).
The WebXR category games are so cool this year! Top3 is definitely worth those three brand new Oculus Quests I’ll be sending, you can thank Mozilla for them. I know what I’ll be playing on my Quest in the coming weeks.
Web Monetization with Coil
I’m super happy we had Web Monetization category thanks to Coil, and so many of you added extra features for subscribers in your games, especially since every byte counts. I hope you’ll be flooded with money sooner or later. You are the pioniers and test pilots of the future of content monetization on the Web!
I can’t thank enough Lee Reilly and GitHub for their constant support and help by reaching out to new devs through all their communication channels. I’m glad Sascha Depold from eBay Tech is as excited as I am about organizing local hackathons, because we wouldn’t have the hackday in Berlin second year in a row.
The famous “last, but not least” part - YOU ALL. If not for the awesome community that grew around the competition, it would long ago be over already. I keep on pushing year by year because of you. Thank you for being an important part of something beautiful!
