If you submitted your entry, you are probably busy playing other people’s games to rate them accordingly, and experts are now giving your creations constructive feedback. There’s one more thing that should be done though - a written post mortem.

Post mortems are blog posts about lessons learned - what went good during the development of your game, what went bad, what could’ve been done better, what you learned in the process. A whole story from the idea to the finished build.

There are two main ways people can learn how to code games though js13kGames - checking the source code of your entry on GitHub, and reading your post mortems. It gives perspective, explains your choices, and brings understanding as to why the game looks and works the way it does.

We already have thirteen articles on the list, and there’s still plenty of time to finish yours. Now your memory is fresh, so make sure to reflect that in a blog post, as in the future it will be an interesting document to look back at.

So, let’s celebrate that with Post Mortem Fest! You have time till October 4th to write and publish your #js13k post mortem, and when you do, make sure to send a PR to be added to the list on the Resources page!
