Your Task

An international TV crew has parachuted into Beirut. They have hired you as a stringer. Come up with 2 story ideas they should cover. You don’t have to pick a political issue. The story can be about a social or cultural issue, a human interest or environmental topic — anything really. What is important is that your story needs to be relevant to an international audience.

The length of your story can be anything between 1:30 minutes to 4 min max.

Summarize your story ideas in one paragraph each — starting with a headline, followed by a brief description of the main points you want to cover, and the story angle you take. A story angle refers to the perspective from which you cover an issue. It requires you to specify whether your story is a breaking news item, a background report, a local issue or a national perspective of something.

Here is an example of what you have to deliver:

Story Idea:

Corruption Scandal at UNRWA deprives Palestinian Refugees of access to food support.

An internal audit report released this morning revealed that the head of the UNRWA field office in Tripoli, North Lebanon, has spent 1,5 Million $ allocated for food items for luxurious weekend retreats of its administrative staff. The scandal led to the immediate suspension of the UNRWA field director. An in-depth investigation of all budget accounts over the past 10 years has been launched. Whether the director will have to face trial depends on the outcome the investigation. What is certain for now is that the corruption scandal will prevent 40.000 refugees from receiving much needed food checks for the rest of this year. Half of those affected are children under 12 years of age.
