Memorial Weekend Policing

The Georgia State Police will be out in force this weekend, Memorial Day 2017. Increased patrols will be searching for seat belt violations and especially searching for impaired drivers. While it is not illegal to have a drink and then go drive, is it worth it? The average DUI costs anywhere from $10,000.00 to $17,000.00. That si for a simple traffic stop and arrest.

If you are involved in an accident, that causes serious bodily injury or death and are under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, your costs can go way, way up if your blood is drawn. Blood test cases are my forte and they cannot be won without an expert that can testify to a jury about the problems involved in the testing. So in addition to hiring a lawyer, you are going to be hiring a lab expert, too.

So while you certainly can have a drink and drive, do you really want to?

Uber, Lyft and cabs are so easy to secure that no one should risk it. We all have family members that drive the crazy Atlanta freeways and back roads. No one wants to get the call that their loved one has been hurt or killed by an impaired driver.

So stay safe and just don’t drive if you have had anything to drink, especially this weekend.

If you are involved in an accident, you should first seek medical attention if you need it, and if you suspect the other driver was under the influence, then notify the police and medical personnel about your suspicions. That accident may have been totally avoidable if the other driver had not been drinking.

There is no reason that you and your family should suffer from the actions of someone that could not prevent themselves from drinking and driving or consuming drugs and driving. I have had great success in seeking satisfaction for folks that have been injured or hurt by an intoxicated driver.

Serving as a prosecutor, then long time defense attorney with a niche practice in defending blood draw DUI’s gave me the experience, knowledge and insight into these cases to bring about the best consequences for my clients who have been injured by drunk drivers. And I have seen the devastation caused first hand — so stay home . . . enjoy your weekend, and don’t ruin your holiday with a stop and arrest for DUI.
