With preseason well underway, NFL teams around the league are actively working to get back into game form.

And so too are their digital teams.

Already this year, NFL teams have turned to their digital channels to get their fans amped for the season ahead. From the Atlanta Falcons creative hype videos, to stunning highlight videos from the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, digital teams have been focused on creating quality content to get their fans excited for the official start of the upcoming season.

One of the digital platforms seeing the biggest increase in engagement this preseason? Team’s mobile apps.

Specifically, NFL teams have turned to their owned property, their mobile app, to create incredible training camp campaigns focused on engaging their fans with quality content and important information.

One of the teams leading the way on mobile is the Carolina Panthers, who created an awesome training camp guide native to their app.

Their guide was filled with a variety of incredible information pertaining to their schedule, autograph signings and activities, and also included embedded maps and directions to their field.

“Our top priority was creating an engaging guide for training camp that included all of the information that our fans could need, all in one convenient spot,” said Will Bryan, who leads the Panthers’ mobile app and web platform content strategy.

“We were really happy with how the experience came together. The Rover platform (and the Rover team) helped us create a stunning experience that was completely on brand and easy for our fans to navigate through everything. It was a great way to wet the appetite of our fans at training camp and we hope that they continue to enjoy similar experiences that we are building for gameday.”

As Bryan mentions, while the Panthers’ mobile campaign was loaded with content, priority was placed on ensuring a seamless digital experience. The content initially launches their training camp schedule, followed by sections for autographs, parking and maps, games, Panther Pals, news, and much more. The bottom section of the mobile content also includes additional info on their Fan Fest, as well as external links to their roster and to information on Wofford.

The Panthers have so far received solid engagement on their guide. This is not only because of the content quality, but also due to their strong promotional efforts. While the Panthers sent out a number of pushes to the experience as well as promoting it from a marketing tile in the app, they took it one step further by also handing all fans who attend Training Camp a pamphlet that contained a QR code for fans at the game to scan.

Once fans scanned the QR code on site — boom! The experience would automatically launch, giving fans easy and seamless access to all of the important information they would require, natively in their app.

“Reaching the right fans at the right time with the right content is always going to be our top priority,” added Bryan.

“We’re incredibly proud of the mobile content we provided our fans for training camp. We couldn’t have done it without Rover!”
