Try it, Use it — Just Shopping— 3 days
Backstory
Just Shopping is a simple shopping app to capture and track your purchases. There is many places to buy, there is many places to add your shopping lists but most get lost. Just Shopping allows you to use text or links with tags and groups to keep everything in order.
Just Shopping
Where to find it
For iOS, iPad and Silicon Macs
Experience after 3 days…
I started off with lots of thoughts about Just Shopping. Some were positive, but most were ideas for improvements to make the app really shine! I tracked all my thoughts using our other app, Just Jot, instead of scattered sticky notes.
(Full disclosure: I already use this app for all my major purchases — no more losing items in random notes)
Day 1–3
- 15 new items
- 3 new tags
- 1 set item as purchased
- 2 edit items
- 0 deleted
Honourable thoughts (There is a lot)
- Sharing a saved link requires an extra step — you must click the link and use Safari’s share button instead of having direct sharing.
- There’s a display bug on the splash screen when opening the app on Mac that needs fixing.
- When metadata can’t be loaded for a link, it defaults to a shopping cart icon — this should be customizable.
- Purchase date tracking has two separate workflows: you can only set it in the edit screen after adding an item. It would be better to allow setting the purchase date during item creation.
- The To Buy list needs better organization — currently it’s just a long list of tagged items mixed together. Quick filtering options would help.
- Adding to the previous point, having the ability to set a default To Buy filter would be useful.
- The tag icon on items should be interactive — clicking it should show associated tags with quick filter options.
- On Mac, the sidebar navigation becomes problematic in smaller windows. Having to click the sidebar icon then scroll to the plus button for adding items is cumbersome.
- Consider expanding Tags into broader categories like Books, Amazon, Apple etc., with automatic grouping based on your previously added items. 🤔
