If you buy a rare pair of sneakers that you think will do well on the aftermarket then you’re going to want to know when the right time is to sell them.

The honest truth is, there is always an optimal time to sell a pair of sneakers. This time might be immediately after purchasing the sneakers, 6 months after purchasing the sneakers or a year after purchasing them. It honestly all depends on the sneaker you’re purchasing.

While there isn’t an exact formula to figure out which sneakers will skyrocket in value and which ones will slowly rise, you can use information from prior releases to more accurately figure out when to buy and sell a sneaker.

If you’re a member of Juiced IO then you would know the best time to sell a sneaker long before you even buy it. Members receive this type of detailed information before sneakers are released so they can make the best decision for their money. The same information goes for more than just sneakers. Bags, apparel, and technology are just a few of the items that Juiced IO members have premium access to information about.

If you’re looking for basic rules about the right time to sell a pair of sneakers, here are some ideas to consider.

List as a pre-order One great way to make quick money on a sneaker before everyone gets their pairs and prices on the aftermarket drop is by selling pre-orders on eBay. Basically, you’re telling the customer that you have a pair for them but you can’t ship it until the day you get it.

The way eBay works is once a customer buys the sneakers, you’ll automatically get paid for them. Then, when the sneakers come in all you have to do is ship them back out to the customer.

One thing to remember is to make sure you increase the handling time on your presale order from 3 days to 5 or 10. That way eBay doesn’t question your seller status for not shipping within 3 days if it takes you longer to get shoes in from online.

Quick flip A quick flip is exactly what it sounds like. As soon as you get your hands on the sneakers you list them for sale. You’ll want to make sure you list them at their current selling price on the aftermarket if you actually want to make a sale and quickly make money.

Usually, quick flips are done if a sneaker is already selling for a lot of money or you just don’t want to tie your money up in a specific pair of sneakers.

6-month hold If you want to wait around and see if your sneaker goes up in value then holding onto it for 6 months is another wise option.

Historically, sneakers start to see an increase in value around 6 months after they’re released. If you don’t see an increase you have one of two options. You can either keep holding or sell at whatever the aftermarket value is at that time.

Hold a year or longer One way that you can almost guarantee yourself to see a return on your money is by holding a pair of sneakers for a year after it’s released. While 6 months is around the time sneakers start to increase in value on the aftermarket, one year is the time when they drastically start to shoot up in value.

If you can successfully hold onto your sneakers for an entire year, you should see a nice return on your investment.
