The esports off season has felt long. Indeed, its been over a month since we’ve had any significant Tier 1 esports events, much less multiple of them stacked on top of each other. But despite a slow start, 2020 is looking brighter than ever for esports fans.

Here are our top picks for what to watch this weekend:

TOP-TIER: WePlay! Buvokel Minor 2020

It may be called a “Minor,” but the prizepool sure ain’t. With $300,000 and coveted Dota 2 Pro Circuit Points on the line, the Buvokel Minor, live form Ukraine, is an early must-watch for Dota 2 fans.

This event features 8 teams that qualified in their respective regions, including Gambit, Furia, RNG, NiP, Fighting PandaS, Nigma, Team Spirit, and Geek Fam. In particular, we’re watching to see how Nigma (Team Liquid’s highly successful Dota 2 squad has a new name) fairs under their new banner.

Tune in now as things heat up in the double elimination finals bracket.

EPIC: AGDQ 2020’s Finale

If you missed our last newsletter, first of all shame on you, second of all, here’s what to look for in remaining segments at Awesome Games Done Quick 2020. There are still just about 30 hours of the event remaining, including highly coveted segments (and some of my personal favorites) like…

In our not-so-humble opinions, Speedrunning is esports, AGDQ is for a great cause (raising funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation), and you should be watching. Do so here. All for now. Short and sweet. But don’t fret, these newsletters are going to start to get crazy towards the end of January.

We’re right around the corner from absolutely everything starting up again in late January and early February, including LCS, LEC, CDL (Call of Duty’s new league), OWL, RLCS, Genesis 7 (Smash), the next Dota 2 Major, and so much more. We’ll be covering it all for you each week via newsletter, so stay tuned!
