United States of America (USA), the United States is often used, or simply America (English United States of America, USA, U.S., America) is a state in North America. It is one of the largest countries in terms of occupied area (9.5 million km², 4th place in the world) and in terms of population (325 million people (2016), 3rd place in the world).

It is not surprising that as many as 50 states are located on such territory, many peoples live here, who speak many languages.

Let’s take a closer look at the American mosaic.

The United States is often called the American Patchwork. Indeed, if you look at the map of the states of America, you would think that the country is sewn from small shreds — the states.

There are 50 states and one federal district in America.

Most of the names of the States are derived from the names of Indian tribes and the names of the kings of England and France.

  1. Alabama — This region is proud of its fascinating and confusing history. On its territory there are many different landscapes that begin at the spurs of the Appalachian mountains, and extend to the subtropical coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s the city of tourists.

2. Alaska — The northernmost state of the USA, which has the largest area among all other states, but at the same time occupies one of the last places in terms of population.

3. Arizona — At the mention of the state of Arizona, the Grand Canyon, salt marsh foothills, rocky mountains and vast deserts come to mind. In the south-west of the country is this region of the great canyons.

4. Arkansas — Arkansas has simply unique natural landscapes that hit the eye of visiting tourists.

5. California — California is called the shining state of the USA, it is also a stellar state. This state is the forge of Hollywood movies.

6. Florida — Florida is just a paradise for lovers of resort relaxation, surfing and sunbathing on the beach.

7. Hawaii — The state of Hawaii is the largest, however, very sparsely populated region. The Hawaiian coast is a favorite destination for fishing enthusiasts and divers.

8. Michigan — The state of Michigan attracts everyone with its beautiful nature. And this cannot be surprising, because this particular state is the owner of the territory where the Great Lakes are located today.

9. New Jersey — New Jersey today is a very amazing and fascinating state, which is located on the northeast coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It is amazing that here you can find everything at once.

10. New York — By far, the most famous state in the USA is New York. After all, it is here that approximately two million emigrants live, who came here for a better life back in the 19th century. The symbol of the city of the same name is the Statue of Liberty, which is installed on the island of Liberty. New York is called the Imperial State. This dream city is chosen by all travelers who travel to America.

And etc.

In 50 states, a huge number of people of different nations live. The ethnic composition of the US population is extremely diverse. The United States is traditionally called the “country of immigrants.” Over the centuries, immigrants from England, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, China, Italy and many other countries came to the United States. Today in the USA you can meet people of almost any nationality.

Belonging to a particular nationality (ethnic group) in the United States is determined during the census.

The most numerous ethnic groups in the United States today are the descendants of Germans, African peoples, Irish, British and Mexicans.

Because of the diversity of nationalities in the United States, people here speak many languages. The United States of America is a large multinational state, which represents almost the entire palette of the most widely spoken languages in the world.

The USA does not have an official state language. Most people in the country speak American English. In addition, in 27 us States, this language is officially recognized as the state language. For example, it is made in Hawaii.

Spanish is the second most common and primary language in several regions of the United States. Thus, in Puerto Rico (the status is a dependent territory of the United States), Spanish is recognized as the official language, it is spoken by almost the entire island. Also spoken Spanish in Florida, New Mexico and Miami.

The state of Hawaii has two official languages — English and Hawaiian. The latter is spoken by the smallest proportion of the population, but nevertheless the language is still preserved in Hawaii. In addition, on the island of Niihau, it is the main one.

Chinese is by some estimates the third most popular language after English and Spanish. It is spoken by about 2.5 million people in the United States due to the large influx of Chinese immigrants.

Since Japan is quite close to the Hawaiian archipelago, it is in the state of Hawaii that the highest concentration of Japanese in the United States. Japanese is taught in many private schools.

Indians are native Americans. Indian languages and dialects have survived and are still in use today. The most common of them — Navajo — speak almost 180 thousand people. In addition, the Indians living on the Upper plains, use quite an interesting sign language. The eskimo language, especially the Yupik dialect, is used in Alaska. It is spoken by 16 thousand people.

French language is used by about 2 million people. State-leader on spread of French is Louisiana. In addition, it is quite widely used in Maine, new Hampshire, Vermont.

German is also spoken in America, especially in the States of North and South Dakota. It is interesting that in the whole country there are many immigrants from Germany, but they speak American English, not their native German.

Russian is also popular. In general, Russian is spoken by about 2 million people in America.

Thus, in fact, the US is dominated by English, but at the same time widespread Spanish, Chinese, French, German and some Asian languages.

Also in the United States are used rare languages, dialects and dialects.

Here I would like to stay, read more about the US states individually in the following stories.

Also in the near future I will try to talk about the diversity of my native country — Russia, as well as other nationalities of the world.
