John Ronald Reuel Tolkien is an English writer and poet, translator, linguist, and philologist.
He is called “the father of modern fantasy literature”.
The most famous works of his “ high fantasy”: “The Hobbit, or There and Back”, “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Silmarillion”. Tolkien made an invaluable contribution to the development of this genre. Among the huge army of Tolkien fans, there are quite a large number of famous names. George Martin said that the fantasy genre is not serious enough, making exceptions only for “The Lord of the Rings”. Tolkien discovered fantasy for Stephen King, Robert Salvatore, Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, and Nick Perumov.
Tolkien is the creator of several artificial languages: Quenya, or the language of the high elves; Sindarin, the language of the gray elves.

The Silmarillion is a work by J. R. R. Tolkien, published posthumously by his son Christopher. This book, together with “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings”, is a collection of fairy tales, poems, stories, artificial languages, and literary essays about the fictional world called Arda and its parts of Middle-earth.
“The Silmarillion” tells us about the events from creation of Arda to the end of the Third Age (and briefly about the events of “The Lord of the Rings”).
We all know the movies of Piter Jackson, and I think it makes no sense to explain why it is worth to read “The Silmarillion”. Great experiences, new emotions, new knowledge about the world of Middle-earth — that’s what you get after reading.
