Hello! Now I want to tell you about remaining states of the USA that begin with the letter A. They are Arizona and Arkansas. Let’s go!

The third a-state is Arizona.

Located in the southwest of the country. Along with Utah, Colorado and New Mexico are among the “states of the four corners.” The capital and largest city of the state is Phoenix. Nicknames are The Grand Canyon State, The Copper State, The Valentine State. The motto of the state: Ditat Deus (God enriches).

Geography and nature.

Much of the state’s territory is mountains, plateaus, and deserts. In Arizona is the largest forest of yellow pine. In the north of the state is the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River.

The southwestern part of Arizona is occupied by the Sonora Desert, in which cities such as Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma are located. Despite the fact that this is one of the hottest and driest deserts in the United States, Sonora has a fairly diverse flora and fauna, due to the presence of two seasons of rain in a year.

The largest rivers in the state are the Colorado River and its major tributary, the Hila River.

Interesting facts and landmarks.

  1. Arizona ranks first in the country in copper mining. Here, 2/3 of copper is mined throughout the country. A major field is San Manuel. On the territory of the state operates one of the largest cryofirm “Alcor”.
  2. Arizona has the largest number of native American speakers of any of the 48 continental States.
  3. The territory of Arizona is divided into 15 counties (графств).

4. On the territory of the state is one of the wonders of the world — the Grand Canyon. This is one of the deepest (up to 1800 meters) canyons in the world, formed by the Colorado River. The walls of the canyon are huge columns and pyramids painted in different colors — a truly magnificent and fantastic sight.

5. Petrified Forest National Park, on whose territory the remains of prehistoric trees are stored. These trees are over two hundred million years old. In the northern part of the park is the Painted Desert. About one and a half hundred square miles of land are painted in various colors due to the presence of minerals in the soil.

6. Monument Valley is another popular tourist destination in Arizona. These are giant rocks of various bizarre shapes sticking out of the ground.

7. A feature of the state is the meteorite crater, when you look at it that captivates the spirit. A meteorite fell on this place a very long time, many thousands of years ago. Sometimes the edges of the meteorite crater create the illusion of a volcanic eruption, as if rising 50 meters above the plain. It looks very beautiful and breathtaking.

  1. Arizona is one of two states that do not switch to daylight saving time (the second such state is Hawaii).
  2. In honor of Arizona, the asteroid (793) Arizona, discovered in 1907 at the Lowell Observatory, located in Flagstaff in the state, is named.
  3. The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And the fourth state is Arkansas.

The state is located in the south of the USA. The capital and largest city is Little Rock. The official nickname is ”The Natural State” One more: “ The Bear State”. The motto of the state: Regnat populus (The People Rule).

Geography and nature.

  1. In the northwest of Arkansas are the Oushita Mountains and the Ozark Plateau, in the southeast of the Arkansas Delta and the plain of the Gulf of Mexico. The state has many rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

2. There are few lakes of natural origin in Arkansas, but there are many large reservoirs of artificial origin —De Gray lake , Washito, Griers Ferry and others.

3. One of Arkansas’ main attractions is the Diamond Crater, formed as a result of volcanic eruptions. On its territory are diamond deposits.

4. Hot Springs national Park is located in the Central part of the state. Here, 47 springs descend from the mountainside, which bring to the surface water enriched with mineral salts with a temperature of + 61°C. This is a very popular place for swimming.

5. Here are a smaller copy of the Washington Capitol building, with a large collection of monuments and sculptures, the mysterious Blanchard caves, the Smith Art Center historical Museum, the old water mill, which was specially built for the filming of “gone with the wind”, many reserves.

  1. When the French came to Arkansas, there were very few people here. A lot of Indians died from viruses and diseases introduced by the Spaniards.
  2. In Arkansas, archaeologists have discovered the remains of the most ancient human settlements.
  3. Famous Arkansas natives are General Douglas MacArthur and former US President Bill Clinton.
