The USA. “C” states. Colorado and Connecticut.

Hello! Now I want to tell you about some states of the USA. About those that begin with the letter C.There are 3 such states. In this post I tell you about two: Colorado and Connecticut. Let’s go! (Read about California in my separate post.)

The first one is Colorado.

Colorado is a state in the west of the central United States, one of the so-called Highlands. Colorado is the eighth largest state in the United States. Denver is the capital and largest city. The state was formed on August 1, 1876, when the country celebrated its centenary. Because of this, Colorado’s official nickname is Centennial State. Colo motto: Nil sine numine (English: Nothing without providence).

Geography and nature.

Colorado is one of three states (along with Wyoming and Utah), all of whose borders are parallels and meridians, and, like Wyoming, forms simply a “rectangle”. n the central part of the state are the ridges of the Rocky Mountains. In the western part of the state is the Colorado Plateau. Large rivers: Colorado, Rio Grande and Arkansas.

Interesting facts and landmarks.

  1. This state is considered the most “high-rise” in all of America, located above sea level at an altitude of more than two kilometers.
  2. A large number of Spaniards, African Americans, Chinese, Koreans live here.
  3. Colorado is a leader in beer production. In the state capital there are large banks, a mint, light industry enterprises, and federal organizations. In the field of agriculture, wheat and corn are grown, cattle are bred, and they are engaged in winemaking. A major contribution to the development of the economy is made by the development of tourism.
  4. The world-famous University of Colorado is located in the city of Boulder, in the open spaces of which visit the Museum of Natural History. The unofficial title is The Town is The Happiest.

5. 37% of the territory of Colorado is occupied by national parks.

6. Not far from Denver is the famous resort of Colorado Springs. This resort can be compared with Sochi: excellent ski slopes, dry air.

7. Colorado has the highest suspension bridge in the world. Its height is 321 m, to visit there is an unforgettable experience. An interesting pastime is a visit to the ancient Pikes Peak Cow Railway. You can also go on an unusual aerial excursion using a hang glider.

  1. In 2014, Colorado became the first state of America to legalize marijuana.
  2. Colorado in different milestones of history belonged to different countries. Until the state became part of America, it was dominated by Spain, France, and Mexico.
  3. The so-called Colorado potato beetle did not appear here. The birthplace of the farmers thunderstorm is Mexico. How the bug found itself in this state is still a mystery.

The second state is Connecticut.

The name of the state comes from an expression in Algonkin, which translates as “on a long river, prone to tides.” Connecticut is a state located in the northeastern United States. It is one of the six states of New England. It is the forty-eighth largest US state. The capital is the city of Hartford. The official nickname since 1959 is the Constitution State. The former official nickname was Nutmeg State. Motto: Qui transtulit sustinet (Latin)(He who transplanted still sustains).

Geography and nature.

Connecticut is bordered by two large states on the east coast: Massachusetts and New York, and plays a huge role in the country’s economy, thanks to access to the Atlantic Ocean. The state is mostly forested. Closer to the south there are marshy places and sandy beaches. The western part is mountainous.

Interesting facts and landmarks.

  1. Most cities in this region are a real museum under the sky. For example, you can see houses and structures in the style of New England colonies.
  2. An important sector of the state’s economy is the cultivation of Eastern oysters.
  3. Here is the Capitol building of 1879 with an 81-meter tower with a golden dome, you can visit the Supreme Court, which houses a portrait of George Washington (work by D. Stuart), the church of 1812–1816, a library of rare books.

4. In Hartford, there is a house in which the famous writer Mark Twain lived. This is a 3-storey Victorian-style house in 1874. It was here that the writer wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Prince and the Pauper, and others.

5. In the old port of Mystic there is a huge Marine Center with an aquarium where you can watch whales, penguins, fur seals and many other inhabitants of the water world.

6. The fishing village of Stonington with its aquarium shops and the Lighthouse Museum is very popular with tourists in Connecticut.

7. In New London you can visit the Ocean Beach Park, in Mashantucket — in the Historical Museum, in the Research Center or in the entertainment complex of Foxwoods resort.

DO YOU NOW???

  1. Connecticut in the early 19th century was the center of the anti-slavery movement. Many abolitionists lived in here, including John Brown, who led the Harpers Ferry raid, and Harriet Beecher Stow, who wrote “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”
  2. Connecticut managed to visit two colonies: the Dutch and the English.
