Hello! Let’s continue to learn new things about the US States. Now I want to tell you about some states of the USA. About those that begin with the letter D and F.

The first one is Delaware.

Delaware is the state in the Mid-Atlantic region. The state takes its name from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, an English nobleman and Virginia’s first colonial governor. It is the second smallest and sixth least populous state, but also the sixth most densely populated. Delaware’s largest city is Wilmington, while the state capital is Dover, the second-largest city in the state. The state is divided into three counties, the lowest number of any state. From north to south, they are New Castle County, Kent County, and Sussex County. While the southern two counties have historically been predominantly agricultural, New Castle County is more urbanized. Delaware’s nicknames: The First State; The Small Wonder; Blue Hen State; The Diamond State. Motto: Liberty and Independence.

Geography and nature.

Delaware is located on the Delmarva Peninsula. This is the lowest state in the country. Its highest point is a hill in the Appalachian foothills (136 meters above sea level). The climate is moderate. Delaware is a transition zone from humid subtropical to continental climate.

Interesting facts and landmarks.

  1. This is where the great country that we know today as the United States of America was born. Delaware for the first time adopted the Constitution of the country and advocated the excommunication of all US States from Britain.
  2. Delaware does not have such typical North American attractions as national parks, beaches, and battlefields. The state of Delaware has only one national monument in its honor. But there are many historical buildings and structures that “tell” not only how the state of Delaware developed, but also the history of the entire country.

Jacksonville is the most populous municipality in the state and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. The Miami metropolitan area is Florida’s most populous urban area. The state’s capital, Tallahassee, was established as such in 1823 by the second session of the territorial legislature. Nicknames: The Sunshine State, The Land Of The Winds. Motto: In God We Trust.

Geography and nature.

Florida borders the states of Alabama and Georgia to the North.
Most of the state of Florida is located on the Peninsula of the same name between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic ocean and the Florida Strait. The highest natural point in the state is Britton hill, 105 m high (and the lowest of the highest points in all the states), located in the Northern part of the state and does not belong to the Florida Peninsula.
Climatically, Florida is divided into two zones: for the most part, the climate is humid subtropical, to the South — tropical; in the North, monsoon, to the South — oceanic. Miami’s mild winter makes it one of the main tourist destinations in winter.

Interesting facts and landmarks.

  1. Florida is just a Paradise for those who like to go on holiday, surf and sunbathe on the beach. Due to the fact that the Peninsula on which the state is located is washed by the Gulf of Mexico, there are unique resort areas that are very popular with most tourists. The most famous city in Florida is Miami, part of which is Miami beach — a real Mecca of beach recreation, nightlife and entertainment.

2. The Everglades National Park in southern Florida is the largest protected Park in the southeastern United States.

3. One of the oldest buildings in all of Florida is a fortress shaped like a star. It is located in the city of St. Augustine. It was built in 1632 by the Spanish, the building is now considered a national monument. The unusual shape of the fortress helped protect the inhabitants from attacks from land and sea. There are still guns installed on the territory, reminding of the difficult times of the state.

4. “Sunny” Florida is also known as the “Walt Disney World Recreation Center”. Every year it is visited by 50 million adults and children. On an area you can find Cinderella Park, the Magic Kingdom, The disney Kingdom of Animals, as well as the famous Disney Hollywood Studios.

5. The Kennedy space center is one of the most exciting, and educational attractions in Florida. Located on the Florida space coast, this huge complex is where space exploration has made history. Today you can see the rockets and the Atlantis spacecraft, meet the cosmonaut and learn about space missions.
