Hello! Today I would like to tell you about transport in India.

Transport links in this country consist of land, water and air transport. Public transport is the main kind of road transport for the majority of Indian citizens, and India’s public transport systems are among the most heavily used in the world. Let’s discuss each of the types of transport in more detail, but first one interesting fact.

India is a big country where people are always in a hurry. On the road, it is very difficult to understand what rules drivers of cars, rickshaws, motorcycles, bicycles and mopeds follow — no one follows the rules of the road. Everyone just goes where he needs to go.

Indian air transport

India is a country with a well-developed network of international flights, which are carried out by Indian airlines. The largest of them is “Air India”. Domestic flights and flights to neighboring countries, are provided by the company “Indian”. Private airlines are very popular in India. They are called “Aviataxi”.

India has 4 main airports — 2 of them are international, located in Delhi and Bombay. Also, there are approximately 70 airports in India that provide domestic flights. This makes it possible to fly to the most remote Indian states with comfort.
All domestic airports in India are equipped with restrooms, toilets, here you can use ATMs, visit numerous shops or cafes.

Flights of indian airlines are very often canceled or delayed. This is happening against the background of frequent non-compliance with the rights of air passengers.

Rail transport in India

Rail transport is the most popular in India. India takes first place in Asia and second in the world in terms of the size of its international rail network. Almost all major cities in the country are connected by rail, and train tickets are relatively cheap. In some places, the railway may be interrupted, in which case you can get from one station to another by bus.

There is a special program in the country for foreigners and Indian citizens living abroad, which allows them to travel by rail for a certain period of time on a single ticket.

Train speeds in India are noticeably lower than in Europe. Therefore, it is best to travel by express trains.

Road transport in India

The length of Indian highways is more than 3.3 million km (3rd place in the world). According to statistics, roads provide approximately 80% of passenger and 65% of freight traffic in India. The condition of the roads in India is very poor and bad, also, they are very narrow and they are often not any any markings and road signs.

An extensive network of bus routes connects all parts of India, which is especially relevant for areas without railways, as well as for the highlands. The country’s major highways are mostly used by modern express trains with all the amenities, but there are old buses on the village roads. Almost always, buses are filled with people, so luggage is transported on the roofs, as a result of which it is often stolen or lost.

There are many taxi cars in India that are painted yellow. Also, you can rent a car, which requires an international driver’s license and a civil liability insurance policy. Car rental points are located at most hotels.

Rickshaws are the most popular Indian transport. They are divided into bicycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws. Drivers of these vehicles will help you get to any place in the city as quickly as possible.

Water Transport of India

The level of development of water transport in India is not high. It is not very developed and is in poor condition. The main seaports are Kolkata, Mumbai (Bombay), Cochin, Calicut, Chennai (Madras), Rameswaram and Panaji (Goa).

Now you know how to get to India and what is the best way to move around the country!
