Back in November we had our first Minister’s Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) meeting.

The meeting took place over two days, and we are excited to share with you some more details about what took place at that meeting. Here is the agenda from our meeting, and if you would like to learn more about the discussions that took place, be sure to check out the meeting minutes.

Inaugural Minister’s Patient and Family Advisory Council Meeting

Day 1 — Friday November 24, 2017

9:00 to 9:30 am Welcome Address

  • Member introductions — to include name, region, and hopes for the Council.
  • Opening of day 1 with remarks from the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins, and from Julie Drury, Chair of the Minister’s Patient and Family Advisory Council

9:30 to 10:30 amIcebreaker

  • What if… Healthcare? — A visioning exercise to describe the collective vision for a future healthcare system
  • Participation from the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins

10:30 to 10:45 am — Break

10:45 to 11:15 am — Getting to know each other
Exercise with Members, Secretariat Staff, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Melissa Farrell, Health System Quality and Funding Division, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

11:15 to 12:30 pm — Council Business: Part I

  • Overview of Inaugural Meeting
  • Role of Chair & Council
  • Review how advice will be provided; applied and acted upon
  • Explore other means of involvement, including subcommittees, strategic advisors

12:30 to 1:30 pm — Lunch

1:30 to 2:30 pm —Council Business: Part II

  • Code of Conduct, Terms of Reference
  • Yearly report process, advice provided to Minister
  • Privacy, confidentiality, social media policy, communications, etc.

2:30 to 2:45 am — Break

2:45 to 4:30 pm — Council Theme Prioritization — group brainstorming exercise

  • Introduce theme framework

  • Julie to welcome three guests — Lisa Hawthornethwaite, Mim O’Dowda and Lauren Lee to the Council meeting to introduce the importance of storytelling in patient engagement work
