There are two castle houses on the market in Austin right now.

This one in Northwest Austin is $599,000. It’s quite new to the market! It’s on 1/3-acre lot, and features six bedrooms and five baths, in 4333 sqft. The game room has a fireplace, pool table, foosball table, dance floor(!), two slot machines, AND two pinball machines. (Whether the equipment and tables convey is negotiable.) I’ve driven past this house many times because I show properties in this area quite frequently. It’s hard to miss! It’s a castle in an otherwise typical, nice, upscale Austin neighborhood. I mean, you drive down the street and you see house, house, house, castle, house, house … wait, what?

The other castle house is Richard Garriott’s Britannia Manor. It’s been for sale since 2011. It takes a very special person to spend $3.5m on a castle nestled on 4 acres in West Austin. A little over a week ago, he dropped the price by $600,000. Rather than giving you the specs on the house, I’ll just direct you to its Wikipedia Page. It’s a rather famous landmark, and I’d wager that most of my friends have been inside a time or two for one of Garriott’s famous Halloween Haunted Houses. Now-a-days, Scare for a Cure is held elsewhere.

I just love this crazy town. Every place has its wacky architecture, but how many cities have (at least) two castle-houses custom-built to be homes for someone who, well, just likes castles?
