The Athlete Influencer: A Look at the NFL’s #MyCauseMyCleats Campaign

Raising awareness for charities near and dear to the hearts of players. That is what Week 13 in the NFL is all about. The NFL’s uniform policy is quite strict, but for this weeks forthcoming games they are willing to make an acception for the “My Cause My Cleats” campaign.
According to the NFL, over 500 players will participate and many have worked closely with Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour to design their cleats. All throughout social media, fans can get a sneak peek of many customized cleats using the hashtag #MyCauseMyCleats.
Below are the cleats that will be worn by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry, as he is wearing his cleats in hopes to raise awareness of cystic fibrosis.
“One of the great NFL traditions is how our players passionately support important causes in their communities and around the globe every year,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a blog post on NFL.com.
All the athletes taking part in this week’s campaign serve as influencial ambassadors seeking to raise awareness for the causes they care about most. The effectiveness of this campaign highlights the value of social media and the ability to spread awareness by successfully leveraging key social influencers.
