(We’ll never be over eclipse puns, #sorrynotsorry)

Every street corner was packed at 2:40 p.m. on Monday in New York, full of people trying to get the perfect picture of the Solar Eclipse to post on social, because if you look through your phone then you don’t need those hard-to-get glasses, right?

Brands couldn’t resist seizing the opportunity either to use this major current event to drive social media engagement. The results were a combination of hilarity and eye-catching. For example, Netflix got sassy and Chiquita got a little strange.

Of course it was primetime for influencer marketing as well. Unless you are still wearing your Eclipse glasses, you’ve probably seen Krispy Kreme’s advertising for the solar eclipse, featuring a large chocolate donut eclipsing a glazed donut. One of the most engaging influencer posts about the eclipse was sponsored by Krispy Kreme and used former NBA player and TV analyst Shaq.

The Pebbles Cereal brand turned to Mommy Bloggers on Facebook. If you couldn’t get the infamous glasses, Pebbles had your back. Influential moms on social media showed their followers how to make the glasses using a box of Fruity Pebbles so that their eyes wouldn’t burn. Awww, moms do care!

Royal Caribbean went the route of finding an influencer interested in the topic at hand inviting influencer Vsauce2. He gave a talk and got to experience the eclipse from the cruise ship! He shared his excitement in the post below. (BTW — Did you know that Julius’s platform has over 700 influencers and celebrities with interest in Science and 40 with a more specific interest in Astronomy?)
