When you invest, you often get something good in return. There’s no investment without risk save the one you indulge in with Allah. It’s a business that you’d surely never fall into a loss. Remember, it’s Allah Who has given you all that you possess today. So one of the most befitting ways to express gratitude is by presenting everything in your possession at His disposal. Spending a part of one’s wealth in the way of Allah is only a symbolic expression of that attitude.

Here are five reasons for you to do business with Allah:

  1. To earn His forgiveness and admittance into paradise:

O You who believe! Shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful torment. That you believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and that you strive hard in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives, that will be better for you, if you but know (If you do so) He will forgive you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, and pleasant dwelling in Gardens of Adn Eternity (Adn (Edn) Paradise), that is indeed the great success. — Qur’an 61[As-Saff]:10–12

2. To reap unimaginable rewards in manifold:

The parable of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, is that of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower. — Qur’an 2[Al-Baqarah]:261

3. To Invest in your future:

So recite as much of the Quran as may be easy (for you), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, and lend to Allah a goodly loan, and whatever good you send before you for yourselves, (i.e. Nawafil non-obligatory acts of worship: prayers, charity, fasting, Hajj and Umrah, etc.), you will certainly find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. And seek Forgiveness of Allah. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful. — Qur'an 73[AL-Muzammil]:20

4. To purify yourself:

Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower — Qur’an 9[At-Taubah]:103

5. To increase you in faith and goodness:

Believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and spend of that whereof He has made you trustees. And such of you as believe and spend (in Allah's Way), theirs will be a great reward. — Qur’an 57[Al-Hadid]:7

So how do you invest in a business with Allah?

  • Feeding and supporting the poor, needy, orphan, wayfarer, destitute etcetera.
  • Supporting your immediate family, extended relatives, neighbors and friends.
  • Assisting a cause which promotes the spread of the shahadah.
  • Supporting any meaningful cause that brings benefit to humanity.
  • Donating to an Islamic organization that truly execute the funds in Allah’s cause.
  • Establishing health projects by helping sick people with bills and medicine.
  • Supporting the education of children who are less privileged.
  • Developing community projects in areas of need such as Borehole water accessibility.

It is important to note that the condition for acceptance into this business is one: you have to do this solely to please Allah alone. Not in any way for earning praise, fame, respect or reward. Remember, that which you spend in the cause of Allah is an investment that will save you from the troubles of the Hereafter. So here’s the month of spending, here’s another opportunity for you to transact with your Lord, The Most Benevolent One.
