The ultra-religious and the theologians from Jerusalem met Jesus and saw his followers eating without washing their hands. The ultra-religious always wash their hands ceremonially, they’re old school, they don’t eat if they haven’t washed. So, of course, they asked him, “Why aren’t you teaching your followers properly? Why don’t they wash their hands?”
