I am
A poem about progress
I am one more step
forward today for
recognizing that
my life has shifted.
The weight that long
lifted, allowed me
to gain immense
heart strength
to carry on,
despite the
uncertainties.
I no longer need to
analyze heart
situations.
I am simply the heart
that beats forward
everyday.
The memories of the
past, though tempting
to savor no longer defines
who I am today.
I am who I am today
not because of my past
but because of my future.
That future is determined
by the strong core within.
It is determined by
incremental progress
everyday.
During heavy hurricane
induced currents that
can topple ships,
I have faith in finding
my way to shore.
To savor and share these
dark experiences are as
sweet as sharing the ones
that light up the sky.
There are no shortcuts,
no compromises
for a life well-lived.
