The business world is littered with dead documents that do nothing but waste everyone’s time. That free Key Note template you downloaded from Graphic Burger just to showcase your weekly marketing report. Cut the shit, rather send a Slack message.

If you need to explain something try getting real with it. If you have an idea, instead of throwing it into a long winded email, draw it, get stuck into what you are actually in-visioning. Often, you will find that you will end up refining the idea, reducing the excess or simply realising it’s unnecessary for right now. Time is one of the most value assets, not just for you, but for everyone around you.

Make a habit of undercutting other peoples time. Don’t call a meeting for no reason, if it can be said over a slack message or a simple one pager, rather save the time. Try to begin taking notice to what we at Hero like to call “micro moments” in your environment.

We are born to filter these micro moments naturally as we assess the environment around us. At Hero we will never make a pitch between 3–6 pm — who the hell is excited to absorb new and creative information mid-afternoon — absolutely no one. Idea’s, concepts and any other valuable piece of information needs to be treated like little nuggets of gold. When is the right time to sell? Who am I selling to? What’s the most valuable aspect going to be for them not just me? Pay attention to every detail that will make the point you are trying to get across more clear. You will see better results.

An idea is just an idea, and everyone has one of those — you’ve got to find what makes your idea valuable to other people.

“What you do is what matters, not what you think or say or plan.”
Jason Fried

Start by making something real. Anything else is just a distraction.
