Acknowledge Your Accomplishments To Build Self Confidence

Imagine a blind man walking into a busy street without knowing what’s in front of him.
Or a kid smoking a cigarette not knowing the self inflicted damage it can cause.
That’s what you’re doing to yourself when you tell yourself — “I have nothing to be confident about”. You’re harming your self confidence simply by not acknowledging your successes and achievements. Trust me, you have plenty of them if you care to look.
The fact is you do indeed have something to be confident about. You’re just blind to it because your attention is elsewhere. It’s just become an unconscious habit….
If you look at the main image for this post, it’s a team full of kids celebrating their success. By acknowledging your success, you become aware of what it is you’re capable of doing.
When you’re aware of what you’re capable of doing, that boosts your confidence dramatically. And pushes you to achieve even greater heights, overcome bigger challenges, and raises your self belief in the process.
If there’s one simple solution to start the process of building up your confidence, it’s acknowledging your accomplishments. No matter how big or small your accomplishments are.
Have you:
- Got straight A’s, B’s or C’s in school?
- Sold a business?
- Taught your kids the value of self respect?
- Held down a long-term relationship?
- Made someone’s day better?
- Ran a small family business for X amount of years?
- Saved a life?
- Stopped someone from going down the wrong path?
- Had a healthy baby?
- Inspired others to pursue their dreams?
- Self published a book?
- Ran a blog for more than 1–3 years without quitting? (Most quit in 3–6 months)
- Helped a customer? A friend?
- Made a difference to someone’s life?
- Made something of yourself regardless of circumstances?
- Been published on a blog bigger than yours?
- Developed a new habit?
If you’ve done either of the things above, or anything else whether big or small, that’s an accomplishment. And you should acknowledge it, rather than dismissing it for being something unimportant. Or worse, thinking it’s nothing compared to what “this” guy or “that” person has done.
Comparison is the devil. And If you want to build your self confidence then start acknowledging each and every little thing you achieve. Appreciate it. Be proud of it. Because you did it, and nobody else but you could have done it.
I’ll finish up this post with a relevant quote.
“It’s not the amount that counts, it’s the attitude.” — Jim Rohn
