— Sunrise #1, 2017

Traditional haiku was about the seasons, and in Japan, cherry blossoms symbolized growth and new life. Here I add sunrise, another intuitive trigger to emote a fresh beginning.

This was shot in late March 2006, on a pond in my neighborhood, outside Raleigh. I remember my latte that morning, in a losing battle to provide some warmth — it was a crisp 31 degrees.

They say less is more. Haiku is like that. But not when it comes to coffee. I confess to refills.

This is my Creativity Series entry 4, input to my Writing Cooperative “backstory” post 31. Find me on Twitter, Instagram and of course here on Medium. I love this place.
