Modern EDM Festivals Don’t Hit the Same as Raves in the 90’s
What made massives during the golden era of raving epic
I went to my first rave in 1995 and my last party a month ago. The biggest raves were called massives. Today they prefer to be called festivals, because it’s cheaper to insure a festival than a rave.
I got old but never grew up. My idea of a good time is still getting lit and dancing to music that goes doof-doof-doof.
The biggest difference between raves now and then is that we didn’t have old ravers telling us how much better raves were 30 years ago.
The OG’s are right though. The golden era is long gone. Electronica is just music now. Rock is dead. Pop has become EDM. Raves today are concerts people wear costumes to. Parties like the raves I went to are long gone and so are the conditions that created the vibe that got me hooked.
The underground warehouse and desert party scene is alive and well. It’s evolved but hasn’t changed as dramatically as massives have.
