I was 11 years old when my father gave me the book Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson to read. It hooked me with the greatest opening line ever.

“We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold”

Holy shit. What a ride. Fear and Loathing is still to this day my favorite book. I stayed up all night reading it.

That was the life I wanted to live. Having crazy drug experiences in exotic places surrounded by colorful characters. I was already in Los Angeles. I just needed some hallucinogens.

I had heard of half the drugs in the book. The others drugs I asked old deadheads about. It all sounded like a lot of fun and something I wanted to experience. It didn’t need to be in Vegas, just somewhere cool.

At 15 I chose the life goal of trying every drug there is. I got pretty damn close too. The only drugs I haven’t tried are the ones that no longer exist.

The first drug I wanted to cross off my list was acid. I was expecting to see some crazy shit.
