The Untitled Gestures And Body Parts

I bought a gift for myself on my birthday. It arrived quite nicely with a note:

It lives, it breathes, it gives off — fragrance?
I don’t know what it gives, a vibration that we can not name because there is no name for it;
even when my patron said “name it”;
there is no name
It’s a magazine by artist and designer Paul Elliman,
Untitled (A September magazine).

With more than 500 glossy pages in hand, it feels quite heavy. The magazine is quite heavy and it takes a while for me to to go through even a quarter of it. And that’s exactly the point. It is so that time is allowed to flow, slowly, from page to page,

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>opening up a space for meditation.

For some reason, by looking at those banal yet poetic human gestures and body parts, I feel that I have a better understanding of what kind of animal human being is. Yes, that is what fundamentally defines our physical existence on the world —

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the space we occupies, the movements of our body, the hands we hold and the things we touch…

I so much appreciate it that the magazine doesn’t have a name, because there’s no need of one. It exists to allow being, to enable feelings and to provoke realization.

From a Design’s point of view, it’s such an elegant mental tool for its acquaintances (readers) to contemplate on their own body languages and the messages contained in those gestures.

And we need more tools to mediate and be human.
