An Open Letter of Gratitude to Jerry Colonna — Part 1
You don’t know me. I’ve spoken to Andy and Dan at Reboot. They’ve been kind enough to spend some time speaking with me over the last year or two. I feel grateful for each episode of the Reboot podcast.
It sounds like I’m probably a good fit for one of the Reboot Circles. I’d like to join one, however can’t afford it at the moment. That’s not why I’m writing to you though :)
I’m writing to thank you.
I see you’re speaking at the Northside Festival tomorrow. I was excited to hear you speak at the Northside Festival in 2012.
Your conversation with Dennis Crowley stuck with me. It was comforting to understand I wasn’t the only one who was “scared sh*tless”. I was relieved to learn I wasn’t the only one still figuring things out.
A year later I got tired of going it alone. The pain I was experiencing reached a tipping point. The pain finally outweighed my fear of asking for help.
I sent a message through your blog’s contact form. I felt it was a long shot, since I didn’t really have a “name” in the startup world. I had some trouble with the contact form. I’m not sure if the message ever made it through to you. I’ve posted that message here.
Asking for help was cathartic. It led me to working with a therapist a few weeks later. I’ve been working with her ever since.
My life is very different since taking that first step. I’m working with a therapist, natural medicine practitioner and cycling coach. I meditate daily, read a lot of Pema Chodron and study Shambhala Buddhism with Lodro Rinzler.
I feel fortunate and grateful for being in a very different place now. I feel more open and connected to the world. I feel happier. I’m able to extend this happiness to my recently expanded family and others around me.
I’d like to thank you for helping me take the first step.
