Here’s Why Just Rolling with It Is the Anti-Hustle
Alright, I think I’m officially on the #Anti-Hustle.
Does this mean I’m lazy? No.
Does this mean I don’t have goals? No.
Does this mean I won’t achieve my goals? I’m pretty sure the answer to this one is no, too.
Does this mean I don’t drive myself hard? Ha, no way!
But you know what? I don’t hustle. I don’t want to hustle.
Does this mean I don’t fit into the startup world these days? I’m beginning to think it might.
Does this mean whatever I do next I have to build myself? I’m pretty sure the answer to this one is yes.
I hope you’re familiar with “the hustle” I’m talking about here. Otherwise, none of this will make any sense!
I don’t know how to define this version of “hustle”. I know when I hear it though.
People refer to having to “hustle” to succeed. People talk about being “on the hustle” like a badge of honor. Budweiser’s even using “the hustle” to try and sell more bad beer in Brooklyn!
I think “the hustle” was born from the cult of busy. I think I actually used to be on “the hustle”. I was probably pretty proud of being there too at the time.
“The hustle” almost caused me to burn out. Almost burning out led me to start Just Rolling with It.
So I guess, in a way, I’m thankful to “the hustle” for that.
I’ve been thinking about “the hustle” a lot since I started working at a co-working space a couple months ago. I’m working out of WeWork in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
I enjoy working here. I feel grateful to be surrounded by the creative energy. It’s inspiring.
It’s also really heavy on “the hustle”. I can’t help but wonder how many of the “hustlers” around me may end up burning out.
There does seem to be an appreciation of wellness too, though. My hope is the “hustlers” take their well-being to heart. Doing this can help us all support a sustainable cycle of productivity and wellness.
That’s why I’m on the anti-hustle. I’m on the anti-hustle to be in this for the long run. Just Rolling with It is my anti-hustle.
I feel like Just Rolling with It has given me another shot. I’m not going to hustle through it this time. This time I’m going to try and be present to enjoy the journey.
